Rectangle and square
Rectangle: Area=l×b,Perimeter=2(l+b)Square: Area=a2,Perimeter=4aCircle and sector
Circle: Area=πr2,Circumference=2πrA sector is the pie-slice region enclosed by two radii and an arc, spanning an angle C in degrees:
Area of sector=πr2×360CPerimeter of sector=2r+2πr×360CTriangle, including Heron's formula
With a known base and height, area is straightforward. When only the three side lengths are known, Heron's formula avoids needing the height at all:
Area=21×base×heights=2a+b+c,Area=s(s−a)(s−b)(s−c)Worked example: find the area of a triangle with sides 5, 6, and 7.
s=25+6+7=9Area=9(9−5)(9−6)(9−7)=9×4×3×2=216=66Regular pentagon
A regular pentagon splits neatly into 5 identical triangles, so its area is 5 times one of them:
Area=5×(21×base×height),Perimeter=5×sideWhen only the side length a is known:
Area=4tan36∘5a2
