The Last 30 Days Before GATE: A Revision Plan

The last month before GATE isn't for new topics. It's for turning what you know into marks under a 3-hour clock. This plan counts back from Saturday 6 February 2027, the first GATE 2027 exam day, and uses only dates confirmed on the official site.

The dates

Thirty days before 6 February 2027 is Thursday 7 January, so day 1 is 7 January and day 30 is Friday 5 February. Exam cities are notified on 4 January, three days before the plan starts, so check yours on the official site and sort out travel early. If your admit card puts you on a later weekend, you gain 7 or 14 days: spend them on more papers and reviews, not new topics.

The plan

30 days to 6 February 2027
DaysDatesWork
1 to 107 to 16 JanuaryOne fast revision pass through every section, from your own short notes and formula sheets
11 to 2317 to 29 JanuaryA full 3-hour paper on days 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21 and 23; the day after each, a full review
24 to 2830 January to 3 FebruaryFix the weakest topics your reviews found; short timed sets only
29 to 304 to 5 FebruaryLight revision of formula sheets, admit card and travel checks, sleep

Worked example: reading your mistake log

Suppose that across your first three papers you log 18 questions lost: 7 to concepts you didn't know, 6 to calculation slips and 5 to misreading the question. Calculation slips and misreading are 11 of 18, about 61%, and both are fixed by habits rather than new study: slower first reading, writing units, and re-checking the final number. So days 24 to 28 go mostly to timed practice with a checking routine, and only the 7 concept gaps get topic time, starting with whichever topics they share.

Pacing a 3-hour paper

GATE 2027 gives you 180 minutes for 65 questions, an average of about 2.8 minutes per question, though 2-mark questions deserve more than 1-mark ones. A simple routine: a first pass answering everything you can do quickly, a second pass on the longer ones, and the last few minutes to re-check. Remember the marking: a blind guess on an MCQ gains nothing on average, while MSQs and numerical-answer questions carry no negative marking.

Common mistakes

  • Starting a new topic in the last fortnight
  • Taking full papers without reviewing them
  • Practising with a physical calculator when the exam allows only the on-screen one
  • Leaving exam-city travel to the last day
