8 Things to Check on Your JEE Main Admit Card Before Exam Day
Most students download their JEE Main admit card, glance at the exam date and centre, and move on. That's the minimum, not the full check. The admit card is a four-page document with a lot of specific fields, and an error on any of them is much easier to fix a week before the exam than at the gate on exam morning.
The full checklist
Go through every one of these against your original application, not just from memory:
- Full name, father's name, and date of birth, exactly as they appear on your photo ID, not just as you'd normally write them
- Gender and category (General/OBC/SC/ST/EWS/PwD): an error here can affect which cutoff and reservation rules apply to you
- State of eligibility: this determines certain state-level counselling eligibility later, so it's worth confirming it matches what you intended when you applied
- JEE Main roll number and application form number: you'll need both for several things after the exam, including results and correction requests
- The paper you're appearing for (Paper 1 for B.E./B.Tech, Paper 2 for B.Arch/B.Planning), confirm it matches what you actually prepared for
- Allotted exam centre address, exam date, and shift/reporting time: check the city and address carefully, not just the date
- Your photograph and signature as uploaded: make sure they're clear and match what you submitted, not corrupted or cropped oddly
- Category-specific certificate requirements listed in the guidelines section, if applicable to you
The step students actually forget
The admit card isn't done once it's downloaded. It includes a self-declaration section where you need to paste a recent photograph and put your left-hand thumb impression before carrying it to the centre. Arriving with an admit card that's missing this step is treated the same as arriving with an incomplete one. Do this the same day you download it, not the morning of the exam when you're already rushed.
What to actually bring, not just download
The printed admit card alone isn't sufficient. A valid photo ID (the same one used during registration) is required alongside it, and entry is refused without both. Report before the gate closing time printed on the card, not the exam start time. Gates close before the exam begins, and "I was on time for the exam" doesn't help if you missed the gate closing.
If you spot an error
Don't wait to see if it matters. Errors in personal details, category, or exam centre should be raised with NTA through the correct channel (the helpline or grievance portal listed on the official JEE Main website) as soon as you notice them. The earlier this happens relative to your exam date, the more realistic it is to get a fix processed in time.
