GATE 2027 Exam Date and Schedule: Every Official Date So Far

GATE 2027 is organised by IIT Madras, and its exam is spread over three weekends in February 2027. This post lists every date the official GATE 2027 website has confirmed so far, what each one means for you, and how to count backwards from your own exam day. Dates were last checked on 7 October 2026.

What about registration?

Applications go through GOAPS, the GATE online application portal, reached from the official website. The registration dates have been revised more than once, and two official pages currently give different closing dates for late registration, so this post doesn't quote a deadline. Use the official Important Dates page linked above for the current one.

Which weekend is your paper on?

GATE 2027 has 30 test papers, and the paper-by-paper schedule (which paper runs on which day, and which papers are split across sessions) hadn't been published when this was checked. The brochure is clear on one point: in a multi-session paper you sit only the one session shown on your admit card. If you have chosen two papers, they must be one of the allowed two-paper combinations listed on the official site.

Worked example: counting back from your exam

From 7 October 2026, Saturday 6 February 2027 is 122 days away: 17 weeks and 3 days. Exam city allotment on 4 January comes 33 days before the first exam weekend, and results on 19 March come 26 days after the last exam day, 21 February. If your paper turns out to be on the third weekend, you get 14 extra days on top of the 122. Plan to the first weekend and treat any extra days as bonus revision, not as the plan.

After the results

A GATE 2027 score is valid for three years from the date results are announced. There are no hard copies of the scorecard: qualified candidates download it. After the free download period, a scorecard costs ₹500 per paper, and from 1 January 2028 GATE 2027 scorecards won't be issued at all, so download yours as soon as it's available.

Common mistakes

  • Planning around a registration date you saw weeks ago. The dates have moved before; check the official page
  • Assuming your paper is on the first weekend. Your admit card decides your date and session
  • Trusting a schedule from an unofficial site before IIT Madras publishes one
  • Deleting the DigiLocker account you applied with. The official site asks candidates not to, because later communication refers to it
